2024-25: The Season Trophy Droughts Ended

Newcastle, Palace and Spurs each secured silverware to end their agonising wait.

Last night, PSG dropped a masterclass performance in the Champions League final, beating Inter Milan 5-0 to finally get their hands on their first ever Champions League trophy.
That wasn't the only trophy wait that ended across Europe this season, with the aforementioned PSG finally claiming their first Champions League title, Bologna securing the Coppa Italia, ending a 51-year trophy drought, and Stuttgart claiming their first trophy in 18 years when they took home the German Cup last weekend. The same success has happened with English clubs, with five different teams taking home silverware this season.
Newcastle United - Carabao Cup - 70 Years

Technically, this could be seen as 56 years ago if you include their Inter-Cities Fairs Cup triumph in 1969, for most, the last major success would be seen as their FA Cup final triumph in 1955.
Eddie Howe has done a great job since Newcastle appointed him as the first team manager in 2021, helping transform players like Joelinton into great players, and getting the best out of superstars like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimarães, who continue to make Newcastle a very dominant side. The final game saw Newcastle dispatch League winners Liverpool 2-1, with their goals coming from defender Dan Burn and Alexander Isak to seal the win in regular time.
With another successful domestic season under their belt and qualification for another season of Champions League, there's plenty of potential for Newcastle to go on and add more silverware to their cabinet in the coming years.
Crystal Palace - FA Cup - The Club's First Ever Major Trophy

Crystal Palace weren't the only team in the Premier League to be trophyless at the start of the 2024/25 season. Their empty major trophy cabinet was shared with Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham, and Brighton, who are still chasing their first major trophy.
That's no longer the case for Crystal Palace, as a 16th-minute strike from Eberechi Eze saw Palace go ahead of serial winners Manchester City, with the team able to hold onto their 1-0 lead and win the Cup, cementing this team as Palace legends.
Crystal Palace ended the season in 12th place, but their FA Cup victory means they'll be one of the nine (yes, nine) English teams competing in Europe next season. It'll be interesting to see how Palace conduct themselves in the summer transfer window ahead of their Europa League run next season.
Tottenham Hotspur - Europa League - 17 Years

The 2024/25 season has been a bit of an odd one for Spurs, as they concluded their 2024/25 Premier League campaign just above the relegation spots in 17th place. That won't matter too much as their Europa League victory has nabbed the club a Champions League spot, as well as a chance for more silverware in August when they'll meet Champions League winners PSG in the Super Cup.
The final wasn't one for the history books, being a mostly underwhelming affair against a poor Manchester United side, with Spurs earning victory late in the first half courtesy of a 42nd-minute Brennan Johnson strike. Despite the final's quality, it won't matter too much as it's not about how you get over the line, but just getting over it.
Their Europa League success marks the club's first trophy since their 2008 League Cup (now Carabao Cup) triumph. It turns out Ange Postecoglou was the man for the job, famously saying, "I don't usually win things, I always win things in my second year," a promise which he delivered on. Now, with Champions League football on the horizon, it'll be interesting to see who is standing in the Tottenham dugout next season.
How did you find the 2024/25 season? I'm glad plenty of teams got the chance to earn some silverware outside of the usual teams. Here's hoping more teams can add to their trophy cabinet in 2025/26.
