Maneater Platinum Trophy

Difficulty: 3/10

Fun: 7/10

Online Trophies: None

Time: Around 10- 20 hours

Maneater has been on my platinum radar for quite some time. I mean, how could it not be? You're a hungry shark that grows into an absolute powerhouse of the ocean by chomping on everything that gets in your way.

The game is staged as an ongoing documentary series following Scaly Pete, the shark hunter who scarred you as a pup and killed your mother. The game doesn't take itself seriously whatsoever and, as a result, Maneater delivers a short fun action RPG title with an equally fun platinum to work towards.

Take a bite out of life/everything

After making your way through the tutorial you'll be thrown into the wild as a pup ready to start the game. To become stronger you'll need to beat quests and gather various nutrients that can be gained from eating fish and humans or discovering collectables across the map. I just spent my time earning XP by swimming around, finishing quests, and working my way through the story. At the start, the game's combat and enemies can feel a bit tough to wrangle with, but as you understand the movement and attacks it starts to feel more comfortable and becomes an easier adventure.

Reach Elder and Fin-ish the collectables

As you continue to work your way through the story, levelling up your shark, your carnivorous fish will also begin to grow, from; Pup to Teen, Teen to Adult, Adult to Elder, and finally into a Mega. To open every gated area and reach the more tricky collectables you'll need to be at the Elder stage (Level 20 upwards). When I reached this point I just cruised around the map grabbing all the remaining collectables which helped increase my level significantly, allowing me to battle most threats without much challenge.

One of the best things I did early on was track down the landmark collectables in each location since these help unlock the Shadow evolution set which helps boost your shark's stats, and buff them with poison damage and utility.

To be honest, as I got to grips with the game there wasn't much that gave me trouble outside of the final boss fight with Scaly Pete, but once I figured out I could dodge and catch his missiles to whip them back at the boat, the entire fight became a breeze. So keep that in mind when you reach that final fight.

Rack Up The Infamy

After cleaning up all collectables and beating the game's story, the only trophies outstanding came from reaching Infamy rank 10, which involved creating enough chaos to draw out the remaining famous shark hunters and take a bite out of them one by one. This wasn't much of a grind at all, and it was pretty fun to continually wreak havoc as an overpowered beast on poorly equipped shark hunters.

In terms of tricky trophies, I don't think anything really sticks out, just enjoy the game, clean up the map and you're pretty much golden. It's a great trophy list, that's helped by being a fun game that rewards you for doing all it has to offer. If you're looking for a short platinum that's worth your time, go ahead and sink your teeth into Maneater.
